The Awful Truth
by Arthur Richman

(1921)

September 18 - October 18

The Triumph of Hope Over Experience...

Before she can remarry, New York socialite Lucy Warriner must stifle an ugly rumor:
that her first husband divorced her because she had an affair.
So whom does she enlist to assure her new fiancé of her innocence?
That very ex-husband, of course.

But he and she don't necessarily agree on the facts of the case,
and in disputing the details of history, they uncover just one obvious truth:
they are only more in love now than they were then.

With both wry wit and innocent warmth, a play that asks
what chance friendship, love, or marriage could ever have
if they depend on knowing
THE AWFUL TRUTH.

Alison's House
by Susan Glaspell

Winner of the 1931 Pulitzer Prize

In honor of the 100th anniversary
of the founding of
The Provincetown Players

November 13 - December 13, 2015
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of
The Provincetown Playhouse

"Hope
is the thing with feathers..."

Inspired by the life and reputation of Emily Dickinson, Susan Glaspell's play of a family struggling with how to celebrate and protect the legacy of a famous but famously reclusive ancestor won the Pulitzer Prize in 1931.

When the home of late poet Alison Stanhope is to be sold, some of her heirs will risk the house and those within it to keep secrets it holds from being discovered. Is the life of the poet also part of her work?  Does a poet's voice belong to her family or to the world?

The hopes of the living, the hopes of the departed, and the life of hope itself are all contained in ALISON'S HOUSE.
